Rwenzori Mountain climbing

Day 1

Meet and get early morning flight or road transfer to Kasese. Overnight

Day 2

Early morning departure to the foot of the mountain to start your climb to the first hut. Overnight at Nyabitaba 2650m, 10km-4-5 hours.

Day 3

Continue via the old route to the Guy Yeoman camp. 3450m, 5-6 hours.

Day 4

From Guy Yeoman, you will pass Kabamba a very pleasant place to spend the night with its large rock shelter, waterfall and bathing spot, though the water is very cold. Continuing on, you will pass the Jujongolo rock shelter, the base camp of the Savoia 1906expedition and cross Freshfield pass to Kitandara hut. It is one of the more pictouresque areas with the hut resting quietly by a lake of the same name. The walk will take a long 6-7 hours. 3990m

Day 5

You now turn north for the most interesting day of the trip, assuming the weather is clear. After passing the second Kitandara lake, you cross over huge boulders at the foot of Mt Baker on one side and the glaciers of savoia and Elena duck, Red throated bee eater, African jacana, Rock pratincole, Squacoo heron, Grey headed kingfisher, black crake, Giant kingfisher, pied kingfisher, great white egret, little egret and a possible sighting of the rare shoebill. Overnight at paraa safari lodge. FB

Day 6

An early start to drive south to Fort Portal, a small but frantically busy town at the northern end of the mountains of the moon. There will be a picnic stop along the way. Continue to Ndali Lodge, which is situated on 1000-acre private estate overlooking a beautiful crater lake on one side and on the other, the Rwenzori Mountains. FB

Day 7

Early breakfast then proceed to Kibale National Park about an hour drive. Spend the morning doing a nature walk in this forest rich in primates ( including chimpanzees), birds, butterflies and flora. The forest is a home to species like African pitta, Green- breasted pitta, western black headed oriole, white headed wood hoopoe, Narina’s Tragon, Red bellied paradise, Blue- throated Brown sunbird, Dusky Long-tailed cuckoo and many others. After your picnic lunch, proceed to Bigodi for another nature walk in Magombe swamp. Here we may see species like , Blue throated Roller, Papyrus Gonolek, collared Olive Back, Malimbe, Black Billed Turaco, and many others.
Return to Ndali Lodge for dinner and overnight (FB)

Day 8

After breakfast, you will see birds around the lodge and crater lakes where you will see species like the Giant Kingfisher, Little Grebe, African fish eagle, olive sunbird and others. Check out after lunch and proceed to Mweya safari lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Birding stops will be made en-route, passing the foothills of the Mountains of the moon. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge. FB


Day 9

Start birding early in the morning on the open savannah within the park looking out for grassland specialties and return to the lodge for lunch. Afternoon boat trip on the Kazinga channel as it is the birding highlight of the National park. Species seen include kingfishers, storks, spoonbills Ducks, sandpipers, pelicans, shanks, Geese, cormorants and others. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge. FB

Day 10

After breakfast, check out for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Make birding stops and enjoy your picnic lunch en-route. You will be comforted by the typical African welcome at your camp in Buhoma (Bwindi). Enjoy your stay in such a quite jungle close to the paradise of our cousins (gorillas). Don’t forget that though it’s a quite jungle, you will be woken up by melodious songs of the snowy-capped robin, the grey capped warbler, grey green bush shrike and others. As you enjoy you breakfast, you will be given more songs from Luehder’s bush-shrike, banded wattle eye, to mention but a few free of charge. Dinner and overnight at the camp. (FB)

Day 11

Birding starts early in the morning with the early risers right next to your tent. After an early breakfast, carry your picnic lunch for the whole day birding in..
