Lake Mburo National Park is an unusual place that every part of it is active. It comprises of much and you can't name it. Lake Mburo National Park has a broad region of wetlands. The park wharfs more than a few species of animals including buffaloes, zebras, impalas, elands and many more. The resident bird is a shoebill stork. It has a locale of rolling verdant hills and heavenly lakeshores and also has a collection of habitats; affluent acacia tree valleys, forest galleries, seasonal and permanent swamps which all sustain a prosperous wildlife. Savannah national parks of Uganda inhabits; forested savannahs, rocky outcrops, bushes, thickets, forests, lakes and swamps are domicile to a startling mixture of animals and plants.

A 4 DAYS LAKE MBURO TOUR

LOCATION

Lake Mburo National park is situated in Mbarara district. It is about 3.5 hours drive from Kampala . The park is accessed fro the Masaka- Mbarara road; turn left to Nshara gate ( 13kms past Lyantonde) or alternatively turn left at sanga trading centre (27kms past Lyantonde) which brings you through sanga gate.Both junctions have clearly marked signposts. It is about 13kms from sanga trading centre to sanga gate and 8 kms from the main road to Nshara gate. It is about 20 minutes drive from either gates to Rwonyo park headquarters.

FLORA AND FAUNA

Lake Mburo National Park is famous for its richness in biodiversity. It has about 68 different species of mammals. The common ones are zebras, impalas, buffaloes, topis, and elands that are herbivores and leopards, hyenas and jackals that are predetors. The park also has more than 315 different species of birds including the rare shoebill stork, papyrus yellow warbler, African fin foot, saddle billed stork, brown chested wattled plover, carruther's cisticola, tabora cisticola, great snipe, abyssinian ground hornbill and white winged warbler. The woody vegetation of lake Mburo is dominated by Acacia species, olea species and Boscia species.

GAME DRIVES

The park has a number of tourist tracks that are used for game drives. Impala track exposes the visitors to a diverse species of animals. Impala is the most common species viewed alongthis track although one may sight a number of waterbucks, warthogs, topis, and zebras. Zebra track leads to harems of Burchell's zebra ( Equus burchelli) with ohter species like bushbucks, oribi and reedbucks,. The Zebra track leads to the junction of Ruroko Track, a drivethrough a wetland basin and thick acacia shrubs and woodland, with olive trees and eurphorbia species, kopjes ( rock outcrops) found along the Ruroko track, are home to elusive klipspringers to which the rock is the best habitat.
The Kazuma track passes through wooded grassland where black-bellied bustards often patrol the area. For visitors to experience a real exposure of LMNP, they should climd kazuma hill, which is high enough to enable them see they could have missed. The five lakes with in the park and the rolling hills becomes more visible and attractive. It's better seen than read or heard! Kigambira loop takes you through a wooded wilderness with scattered thicket and while you are here, look out for bushbucks and bush duikers. The lakeside Track is specially designed to facilitate viewing of water plants and animals. The park has a diversity of water birds and woodland birds, which can be sighted along these tracks.

BOAT TRIPS

The presence of Lake Mburo within the park is a blessing. The The lake is rich with a diversity of animals and plant species, which can only be viewed clearly while on a boat trip. These include crocodiles, hippopotami and birds like pelicans, black crake, heron, cormorant and fish eagle but you may also see the rare shoebill stork, all of which will furnish yourvisit with pride. The duration of each boat ride is 2 hrs maximum, but arrangements for extra time can be made with management at an extra fee.

Day 1

Meet your safari guide who will warmly welcome you and depart by road to Lake Mburo National Park (the drive will take approximately 3-4 hours). Take a stopover at the Equator for a photographic opportunity and also some few interesting facts. Proceed to Lake Mburo National Park . This Park is an extension of the Tanzanian plains with big herds of zebra, impala, eland and other ungulates. Bird watching opportunities in this park are excellent - for birders, this is one of the best places to find African fin foot, papyrus bush shrike. After checking in, you will take a late afternoon game drive or a dug out canoe. Overnight in Mantana Tented Camp/ UWA Bandas (FB)/ Rwonyo rest camp

Day 2

In the morning – a wonderful chance to take a guided nature walk. This walk takes you to the Salt Lick Area. This well set wooden platform (Observation point) offers opportunities to encounter at least four various species of animals at any one point while they lick the salty soil. Return to the camp for breakfast, after which we will head through the highlands to Kabale, where we will stop for lunch. Continue on your journey, which offers excellent views including the triangular peaks of the Virunga volcanoes of Rwanda and the Congo . The road then drops down into a valley, to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park , home to the mountain gorillas! Overnight at Gorilla Resort/Buhoma Community Bandas (Full Board)

Day 3

Wake Up early for a hearty breakfast. Assemble to the ranger station for registration and a talk by one of the rangers; the guides will then take you through the bush pushing your way through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track the gorillas. (This trek can take from half an hour to 5 hours – fitness is neccessary as well as a sturdy pair of hiking shoes). Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male; the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. It's amazing to think there are only about 650 of these beautiful creatures left! Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Resort/Buhoma Community Bandas (Full Board)

Day 4

After a morning breakfast, we will drive back to Kampala stopping en-route for lunch arriving in the early evening.
