UGANDA TOUR INFORMATION

The Attraction of Uganda is to give the visitor, you, a chance to experience at first hand, the sights, sounds, scents, flora and fauna often only glimpsed on TV or travel books or magazines.

Today, Uganda welcomes visitors from all over the world of whom, with an adventurous spirit, come to discover our enchanting country. Many are attracted to the beauty of our amazing country; to see the second largest lake in the world, the longest river in the world, the gorillas, the super-abundant bird life and the best white water rafting experience in the world. Who can resist the call of the Magnificient Mountains of the moon and the simply marvelous home grown Murchison falls. The mysterious rain forest in Bwindi, Kibale and semliki etc….

The people of Uganda are amongst the most hospitable in Africa. Our nation is a result of the unification of ancient kingdoms as well as many independent chieftains. Their heritage lives on in the hearts of the people, and their traditional costumes, language and practices are unmistakable in the life of Uganda today.

Getting to Uganda is so easy. Entebbe International airport is just 37 Kms from Kampala. It is served by international carriers from Europe, as well as services to Nairobi, providing connections with Africa’s biggest gateway. Uganda’s equatorial climate is tempered by cooling breezes from mountains. The lush vegetation is the result of bountiful rainfall in two rainy seasons which fall around April and November.

Uganda offers unique experiences to all clients that visit with us. The mutinous color of the vegetation, who’s who list of African bird life, the realization of how close the gorillas and the chimps are to us as relative, the power of the Nile, the profusion of animal insect and reptile species, the claming effect of the vast expanse called the Lake Victoria, the frightening intensity of African rain storms and the greeting by kneeling of the Bantu ladies, not to forget the quiet comfort and service in the superb lodges, tented camps and guest houses in the national parks , all add up to make it the trip of a lifetime to you.

Last and most important is that you are safe and secure in Uganda. The tragic events in March 1999 are well and truly behind us. The government focuses on resource development of the natural treasures of Uganda’s national parks and the people who are involved in their conservation, interpretation, management and enjoyment. The people are you and us.

WEATHER

The country is known for its fine sunny and rainy weather which often does not require the wearing of warm clothing except on some chilly nights in the mountainous areas in western and eastern Uganda. Uganda is on the sunny side most of the year, especially in the central region. Rainfall comes in torrents when delayed, especially when the expected patterns are delayed for some months.

Distinctive wet and dry seasons are typical of most Ugandan areas. For example in the southern, half of Uganda there is rainfall from March to May and in September to November. The rest of the periods are dry. There is a well-distributed rainfall pattern around the Lake Victoria Crescent, with storms and unpredictable rains falling during seasons when there is no rain elsewhere in Uganda.

Areas such as Karamoja in the northeast are dry possibly because of the dry winds blowing in from Somalia. There is very little mean variation in the weather in Uganda except for the mountain areas. The copious rains and bright sunshine are most responsible for successful rain-fed agriculture where grains, fruits and vegetables grow in abundance. Uganda's weather is most likely a major factor contributing to the fine taste of its foods and quality of cash crops like vanilla, coffee arabica (the finest in the world) and tea although Uganda's horticultural export industry has just started blooming.

WHEN TO VISIT

Uganda is situated astride the Equator, so the country enjoys a tropical climate with very little temperature variation throughout the year. The main factor that determines your visit will be the rainfall patterns. In the southern part of the country, April is the rainiest month. The rains stretch up to May, with another wet season in October to November. And although the dry months are good for birding don't forget the fact that the wet months are more productive since breeding takes place during those months.

HEALTH ADVISORY

Uganda’s healthy climate makes it possible to get on with life with a minimum of fuss. You have to take precaution against malaria by taking anti-malarial two weeks before arrival. All kinds of anti-malarias are available in drug shops and there are white doctors who have been in the country for many years who will treat malaria successfully. . Nearly all-African doctors are good at treating most tropical diseases. Some malaria strains now are resistant to treatments like malaraquine or quinine, so its is better to always take precautions such as using mosquito repellents, creams or sleeping under treated bed-nets. You could also put on long sleeved shirts, socks and occasionally use sprays in your room. You are meanwhile advised to drink bottled mineral water, although tap water in most places can be drunk without problems. Some visitors to Uganda find a problem coping with fresh vegetables or fruit salads served in hotels, but the problem is usually not that of parasital infection but a change in climate for visitors. You should be able to drink most fresh juices and salads served in most decent hotels. Otherwise washing vegetables or fruits in a tincture of vinegar or salt is recommended. You might want to swim in most of the lakes or rivers, but a precaution should be taken against Schistomiasis (bilharzias).
