KATONGA WILD RESERVE
Its located in the central, about 200kms west of Kampala . It covers a size of 211sq kms.
Just of recent, it has been developed for tourism, the reserve protects a network of forest-fringed wetlands along the Katonga River . Best explored on foot and by canoe, Katonga supports about 40 mammals and at least 150 bird species, many specific to wetland habitats. Most on seen are the elephants, colobus monkeys, waterbucks and reedbuck and river otter.
This is one of the marvelous places in Africa to look for the elusive sitatunga, a semi-aquatic antelope with webbed hooves that forages almost exclusively in swamps.
TOURIST ACTIVITIES
Launch cruise along the river banks. Day hikes and overnight hikes also take place.
