Day 1: Arrival
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to Kampala, Imperial royale or Metro pole Hotel. (Bed and Breakfast)
Day 2: The Source of the river Nile / Rafting
Depart Kampala by 8.00am; drive to Jinja the second largest town in Uganda. It is characterised by the Asian quarters, the brewery industries and the colourful gardens. You will proceed to Itanda falls to try the unforgettable emotion of the white water rafting, which is one of the main attraction in Jinja. Later in the afternoon, visit the Source of the Nile on Lake Victoria, the monument of Gandhi. Then you drive back to Kampala for your dinner and overnight as above. (Half Board)
Day 3: Depart to Kasese for Day one Hike
Have an early breakfast and drive to Entebbe to catch your flight to Kasese(07:45-10:05). You will be picked up from the airstrip by our representative, who will drive you to Nyakalengijo (1648m). Meet your guides and escorts at RMS Headquarters and start the hike 4-5 hours to Nyabitaba camp (2651m), enjoying wonderful views over the lush afro-montane forest (walking for 5-6 hours)
Day 4: Rwenzori mountain hike
Nyabitaba hut to Johnmaate (walking 7 hours), up the valley of Bujuku river.
The last hour of the trekking is a bit more demanding as the trail starts ascending faster and passes through some boulders/rocks as well.
Day 5: Rwenzori mountain hike
Johnmaate camp to Bujuku and after proceeds to Elena hut (walking 7/8hours).
Climb to Elena Camp (at the snout of the glacier), walking through Asanecio and the wonderful lobelia Wollastonii, then bare rock and scree with nice views of the valleys below as well as Lake Bujuku.
The last hour of the trekking is a bit more demanding as the trail starts ascending faster and passes through some muddy and rocks as well.
Day 6. Rwenzori mountain hike
Scale the Stanley Plateau and the Margherita Glacier to Point Margherita (5,109 m above sea level) .In reverse, follow the same route as for the ascent except, at the bottom of Margherita glacier use the abseil rope/fixed rope for protection and even to aid the climb to connect to the Stanley plateaux. The ice axe, harness, rope and the crampons are useful. After the plateaux, scramble down wards back to Elena camp after a cup of tea proceed to Kitandara camp through scree slopes and enjoy the beauty of the twin trough lakes of Kitandara.
Day 7. Rwenzori mountain hike
Climb over Fresh field pass and descent to Guy Yeoman camp, bypassing the ancient Rock shelter used by the Duke of Abruzzi in his 1906 classic climb.
Day 8. Rwenzori mountain hike
Walk down, crossing the Mubuku river through the heathers, mimulopsis and Bamboo zone to Nyabitaba camp to complete the circuit. After lunch/cup of tea leave Nyabitaba hut retracing out route back to the Rwenzori mountain services offices. This trail usually takes 2 to 3 hours. Descending through Mubuku River and through fields to the Park Headquarters to hand over the rented equipments / Pick up any Luggage that you may have left here, dinner and overnight at Hotel Margherita.
Day 9. Transfer back to Kampala.
Have a good rest as you prepare to have your afternoon flight. Dinner and overnight at Imperial royale or Metro pole Hotel. (Half board)
Day 10. Departure
After breakfast, transfer to the airport to catch your morning flight. (Bed and breakfast)

|Required equipment and organization of the hike|
Required equipment for the central circuit: rucksack, sleeping bag for low temperature and sleeping mat, one plate, cutlery, mug, knife, gumboots (there are many bogs on the way and the gumboots are the best friends of the Rwenzori and its rocks and vegetation), water proof trousers, poncho or rain coat, heavy worm jacket, hand gloves, scarf and cup, one jumper, a torch.
For whoever will climb the peak some specialised equipment is required in addition: crampons, snow gloves, snow goggles, climbing boots, rope and ice axe.
How the hike is organized: The group or the individual person is accompanied by a Guide and by “porters”, who have the duty of transporting some of the luggage for up to 25kg per person (the rest is extra luggage and it will be chargeable at extra cost).
NOTE: Most of the necessary equipment is rentable directly at the store of Rwenzori Mountaineering Services at the base of the Rwenzori. However, we kindly request to communicate in advance what type of equipment you would like to rent in place or buy in Uganda, so that we will guarantee the availability.
